A: Okay I
admit it, the game won't run too well on that system. For the best
experience have
this sort of system:
Pentium II
800
Mhz256MB Ram
Direct3D 8.0 compatible video card with 32MB VRAM
DirectSound 8.0 compatible sound card with 3D sound acceleration
16X CD-ROM Drive
650MB Hard Drive Space
A: Uhmmm what?
A: Yep.
A: Even though it may not look
or play like it, this game is still a "budget priced game".
That means we didn't get the largest development budget or a full
development schedule. So rather than trying to do everything and
have it come out poorly, we decided to focus on a limited set of
features and get them right.
A: 10 missions total, each one
taking 1 to 2 hours to complete. The missions have multiple objectives
and the maps are huge, so don't worry, this isn't a short game.
A: With 10 missions, each up to
2 hours long that's a good 15 to 20 hours of gameplay.
A: Yes, the mission takes place
just before the D-Day invasion.
A: Yes, from the sneaking-around
type of gameplay to the music everything has that "macho war
movie" feel. We even resurrected Lee Marvin to do the voice-over!
(Okay that's stretching it but the guy sounds just like him!).
A: Yes! Head over to the Downloads
section of the site to download it.
A: The game doesn't allow code-level
mods, like adding or changing weapons, changing AI behavior, etc.
But new levels and even whole new campaigns can be created.
A: The game should be available
at all stores that sell software in the US and Canada.
A: On EBWorld.com they list the
game as "Deadly Dozen XL". The XL stands for the box size,
there is a smaller box version being sold in some stores. It is
the same exact game whether you get the "XL" version or
not.
A: As of this writing (November,
2001) the game isn't being released in Europe. But if the game sells
well enough in the US and there is enough interest in Europe it
may be released over there.
A: The game is meant to be played
as a slow-moving stealthy tactical shooter. But you can set the
options to make it play more like an action game very easily, it
is quite fun in this mode and allows for a very different game experience.
A: Played on its default settings
the game is very difficult at first. But once you get into the "Groove"
and learn how things work it gets a lot easier.
A: The game is rated T for Teen.
A: In order to reach a larger demographic
the game was made to have a Teen rating by the ESRB. This means
that we couldn't include blood or gore in the game.
A: Even though it may not look
like it, this game was designed from the ground up as a "budget"
title. This means smaller development budget and less development
time than most games. This means we had to cut some "major"
features (multiplayer, prone positioning) but we think that the
quality of gameplay you get is well worth the cost.
A: nFusion Interactive. Not NFusion,
not Nfusion, not n-fusion. Get it right people! :)
A: We just are.
A: The tutorial and first level
of the full game is included. The demo isn't crippled in any way,
you get to choose from all twelve men and can save/load and everything.
A: The demo is 109 megabytes, zipped.
A: The F12 key takes a screenshot.
It puts a TGA file in the directory the game was installed to.

Technical
Issues
A: Look in the manual or the readme
for Infograme's tech support information. Alternatively you can
ask for help on the n-fusion.com forums, but usually your best bet
is to contact Infogrames.
A: Those operating systems are
not officially supported by Infogrames, but the game was developed
on Windows 2000 and has been tested a bit on Windows XP so it should
run just fine.
A: There is bug in the game that
doesn't allow you to set the resolution in the game to the same
EXACT resolution as your Windows Desktop. This means if you are
running your desktop in 1024x768x32 you will not be able to run
the game in that resolution. Either change your windows desktop
resolution, or try to play the game in a different resolution/bit
depth.
A: Check the Downloads section
of the http://www.n-fusion.com web page for the latest patch information.
A: The patches are not "copy
over" patches. You must unzip them to a temporary directory
and run the DDozen103.exe file. It will then ask you where the game
was installed to, point it to the right place and it will start
patching. Patching could take quite a while, so be patient. After
it is done you will get a "Patch successfully applied"
message, at that point you are correctly patched.
A: In some rare cases this happens,
email info@n-fusion.com and describe the problem you are having.
A new patch executable will be sent to you that works.
A: This means that the files on
your hard disk are different than the files that are on the "master"
CD for Deadly Dozen. The first thing you should do is uninstall
the game, then erase the leftover directory. Then run ScanDisk on
your computer, doing a full scan (this may take a while). Then reinstall
the game, then patch it.
If you still get verification errors
then most likely you have a bad CD or your CD-ROM can't read the
game files correctly. To determine which problem it is, try installing
then patching the game on a different computer or CD-ROM drive (if
your computer has two, such as a CD Burner alongside your normal
CD-ROM). If you get verification failed on the other computer/drive
then you have a bad CD, simply bring it back to the store for a
refund.
A: Some keys are used for special
functions in the game and can't be mapped. You will hear a "buzzer"
sound if you try to map an unmappable key.
A: Make sure you are running DirectSound
at full acceleration in dxdiag.exe, some games ask you to turn the
acceleration down.
Also make sure you are running
with the Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio 3D sound provider in the
System Setup configuration program (DevCFG.exe). EAX, EAX2, and
other 3D sound providers can sometime cause problems.
Also remember to look in the readme,
there may be other solutions in there you can try.
A: This problem has been resolved
in the 1.03 patch.
A: Make sure you read the readme
that is included with the game for all video-card specific problems.
The solution to this particular question is to check "Disable
Gloss Mapping" in the System Configuration program (DevCFG.exe).
A: Yes, there are a few options
you can change that get the game looking correct. First, you must
check "Disable Gloss Mapping" in the System Configuration
program (DevCFG.exe). Next, you must disable "Terrain Shadows"
in the graphical options screen (hit options on the main menu, then
graphics, it is near the bottom of the list).
A: First, make sure you have patched
up to 1.03 correctly. See the question on installing the patch above
to make sure it is installed correctly. If you are running 1.03,
then most likely the problem is a missing video codec. Go to this
URL:
http://www.ligos.com/index.phtml?&pi=103&n1=products&n2=indeo&n3=download
Download the Indeo Video Codec
and install it. After it is installed you should be able to run
the game just fine. If you still encounter problems you should contact
Infogrames technical support or ask for help on the n-fusion.com
forums.
3.
Graphics
A: The game uses a custom-built
graphics engine by nFusion Interactive. It is not a licensed engine
from another company.
A: Bodies stay on the ground for
a while but they will disappear when you aren't looking. This is
done so the game doesn't slow to a crawl if a lot of enemies die
in the same area. There is an option in the 1.03 patch that forces
the bodies to stay, but you need a very fast computer to be able
to enable it.
4.
Gameplay
A: There are 4 basic keys that
you can use while playing the game. "Hold Position", "Follow
Me", "Hold Fire", and "Fire at Will". These
commands are usually bound to specific keys that you can use at
any time during the game. You can also give orders to specific men
in your squad, and tell them to attack specific targets. You can
also take control of any squad member directly.
A: Yes there is save-anywhere functionality.
A: The game follows the storyline
of the war in Europe from 1943 to 1945. The Deadly Dozen is a squad
of misfits who are tasked with doing impossible missions deep behind
enemy lines. The story is told through the briefings and short movies.
A: Yes.
A: Here they are, cheater:
To access the cheats hit the pause
key (the key next to the scroll lock key on your keyboard, not ESCAPE)
and type "cheatcheat"
At that point you can type in the
following cheats (while still in pause mode)
"godmode" - godmode
"ammo" - unlimited ammo
"invis" - invisible
"fly" - fly
Typing a cheat a second time will
turn it off, with the exception of invisible. That cheat can't be
turned off once it is on.
A: 21 seconds.
A: Remember that not only do you
have to complete all objectives, you must bring your entire squad
to the exit zone to complete a mission.
A: When damage realism is set to
"Realistic" your character will play a short pain animation
whenever he is shot. This means you can't move or shoot until he
recovers. To disable pain animations entirely just set the damage
realism to "Arcade". Future patches will probably make
the pain animations take less time to make the game feel more responsive.
A: When your squad is close to
an unalerted enemy they will do their best to be quiet. This means
not yelling our orders to each other. :)
A: Your men choose the best weapon
for the job. So if they are close to their enemy they will choose
an automatic weapon over a slow-firing rifle any day. So if you
switch away from a squad member then back to him, don't be surprised
if he changed weapons while you were gone.
A: Um...you're on your own with
that one. :)
A: Yes! Just put the guy you want
to use the med kit on under the cursor (so his name shows up) then
the med kit will be used on him.
A: Press and hold down the Alt
key, put your mouse over one of your squad members (so you can see
his name under your cursor) then give the command (such as "Follow
Me"). Only that squad member will follow that command.
A: What, you don't know German?
Luckily for you we have a list of all the German dialog, in English.
You'll have to figure out which line is which on your own. Check
it out by clicking on this link: German
